Pretty School

The big day arrived today! Owen's first day of "prettyschool" started off with a big smile as he ran upstairs for breakfast. Look at the grin on his face once he donned his new backpack! His outfit was completed with Lightning McQueen shoes. He was so proud to be going to school with Mommy and Mitchell. He loved playing in my room before classes started, and he was all sorts of ready to walk down the hall to his classroom when the time came.

Keep in mind Owen has a history of "escaping" from supervision. I warned his teachers about this a while ago, so today when one of his teachers caught me in the hall and lead off with "you know when you told me he bolts, I was just envisioning the door..." (Enter this mother's "EEK!"-type thought) Apparently this morning his class was getting ready for recess when his teachers noticed that he was climbing out the awning window feet first--and was almost out! Thankfully, his room looks out onto the fenced in playground, and the window is all of 18 inches to 2 feet from the ground, but still!!!! Needless to say the security has to be beefed up to Owen standards.

Not to forget Mitchell's big start last week either.
He was very eager to begin Kindergarten with Mrs. Manley, whom he adores. Things have gone very well other than he has been forgetting his prized Batman lunch bag at school. He is very excited about the fact that he is the milk helper this week. Here he is last week, and one with Mrs. Manley this morning.

Not to be out done, Miss Lucy is in self education mode when it comes to mobility. She is now standing for brief stretches without holding on to anything. She will take a few steps while holding someone's fingers, or shuffle from side to side while bracing herself against furniture. She's a speedy crawler, can squat, and swat at her brothers. She can also grind her teeth (watch out Aunt Ruthie), click her tongue, and blow bubbles. She is also in love with the Curious George stuffed animal we have. Here she is, on the attack this weekend.

I am surviving the grade change so far. Things are crazy hectic with learning the new curriculum, etc, but I am sort of managing to keep my head above water. I am trying to fight off the unfortunately traditional back-to-school-germ-invasion-sleep-deprivation-voice-strain sore throat. We'll see who will win... right now it's the germ.
