Memorial Day 5K

We had visitors from the West Coast joining us for the day, and what a fabulous day it was! Uncle Matt and Aunt Ruthie were kept very busy by the two Rogers boys. If the social director got it all right, I believe that they:
  • Had grass fights
  • Ran ~numerous~ laps around the house
  • Flew a kite
  • Rode bikes
  • Swung on the swing set
  • Ran back and forth on the deck (sometimes crashing into the railing)
  • Read books
  • Rode the wagon down the hill
  • Ran through the sprinkler
...and that was all before dinner! Needless to say that was a great amount of activity, and it was not without injury. Here we had the band-aid checkpoint. Even Grammy was among the wounded (man, Ken's knives were sharp!).

Lucy enjoyed her first quality interaction with green grass between her toes. We also got to pull out the blue swing for her, and she loved her maiden voyage! Owen even stopped long enough to push her in the swing. Such fun! She also had a good time grabbing and chewing on the plates and silverware at the table. That new tooth of hers needs to be put to the test.

A good day was had by all...

... in the end, we were all dog tired :)

CHOMP! Among other things....

Lucy has her first tooth!!!!!! Lucy was just not herself at daycare on Friday.... we had suspicions that her teeth were bothering her. After a good night's rest, her first little chomper decided to break through today. YAY! Hopefully it will push up further in the next few days so we can get a good picture.

On another BIG note.... Owen successfully went potty ~in~ the potty 3 times today!!!!!! Big news! He is earning stickers each time he makes it... with the ultimate goal of when he is in big boy underwear, we'll take him back to Chuck E. Cheese. Oh boy!

And for Mitchell.... He can count up to 100 with some minor reassurance at the transitions from the 9s to the next set, he made it to 100 at school. WOW!

Ugh....

Mommy is sick.... yucky sick. Unfortunately the germs didn't ask me if I had time to participate with them... they just invited themselves over for an extended stay. Sick Mommy or not, life continues to carry on here in Boon, and here are the stars of our show.

Here is Lucy and I before the germ invasion.

Sit Up and Take Note

Lucy is 7 months old today! WOW... there really must be a gaping hole in the space-time continuum, because I have no idea where the time has gone. I got home today though, and was surprised by Lucy having acquired a new skill. Here she is sitting all by herself! What a big girl!

She is also taking to solid foods with a vengeance. She often gets grumpy if she doesn't have what we are eating. The other night she insisted on sharing Ken's corn-on-the-cob. I'll include a few pictures of her with some Cheerios.

Owen continues to be very 2. He was mad because I wasn't taking a picture of him at the moment. He is such a roller coaster ride though, from the sweetest of sweet to the shrieking defiance so typical of his age (it really is an impairment to be 2).

Mitchell is in the last few weeks of preschool. Next week he will visit his Kindergarten teacher for the fall. His class will also be taking an end-of-the-year field trip. Very exciting.

I am just hoping to survive the next few weeks until school is done.....

Farmer MacDonald, Farm Animals, and the Cubs Farm League

Last Wednesday was a big day in the life of 5-year-old Mitchell Rogers. The 2 preschool classrooms had been practicing for a few weeks to present "Old MacDonald's Farm" to the parents. During the practices the teachers were assigning animal parts to all the kids, when Mitchell pipes up and declares, "I'm the farmer!". They agreed that their show needed a farmer and so Mitchell filled that roll quite nicely. He rode on a tractor on stage and called out what animals were on his farm. It was quite charming, especially when he yelled, "Chickens!" or thanked the audience for coming. Very cute.

Afterwards they had some rhyming activities, snacks, and even farm animals on the playground for the kids to see and pet. There was also the playground that needed some quality control testing, so of course the kids helped with that. Lucy even got in on the fun when she was swinging with Daddy. Here is Mitchell "hugging" a bunny (poor thing!) and Owen checking out the chicks (haha).

Here is Lucy enjoying the swings.

On another note, thanks to the shopping savvy Jen Wagatha (and her daughter Carly), Lucy now has another lovely Cubs outfit, complete with her own baseball cap, to help cheer on her Cubbies (the whole family cheered them to victory today!)
Here she is giving us a fashion show of the new duds. As soon as she saw the camera she was all smiles as usual.
