The Latest Buzz... Or at Least a Trim

Today was a big day in Owen's young life--He had his first haircut! Those long blond locks, while thin, were getting much too long for his liking (especially with the recent hot sweaty days). So off we went to the "haircut store" (as Mitchell calls it), and offed with the curls. Both boys got all trimmed up for the upcoming fall. Mitchell is an old pro at getting his ears lowered, and Owen did a fine job with his first attempt. Yay! They are looking very dapper!

Look at me now!!!

And on another note, Owen went back for a checkup with the eye-doctor today and he seems to be making good progress with his glasses. Because we caught it early (thanks for the prompting Jackie!), the chances of him needing surgery to correct it are very slim. YAY!

"Fore!"

To encourage our young men in the game of golf, Grammy and Papa got some youth sized clubs. Today was our maiden voyage golfing with them. We took them out to Caberfae (where Ken works) to try the new clubs out. We helped Mitchell with stance but are keeping things very low key right now. Ken golfed a few holes, and Mitchell joined him in the fairways for a few swings, and both boys were on the green taking turns with the putter.

Owen's favorite part of the trip was playing in the bunkers....
which of course meant Ken had to retrace his steps.

Mitchell had lots of fun. He golfed the first few holes with Daddy, but then preferred to roll his ball around and chase it.

Owen finished up the day perfectly by grabbing the ball out of the cup. And I don't think you can say it any better than that... (haha for all the relatives that understand that comment)

The Boys in my Life

Here are some recent shots of the 2 young men who dominate my time.... and energy. Believe it or not, Mitchell often asks his brother to "Tackle me! Tackle me!"... He doesn't seem to understand that it will soon backfire.

Here is another one of Owen, trying on my shoes....

And last, but certainly not least, here is Chef Mitchell, hard at work.

A Bed for the Big Boy

Owen has been napping on a mat at Daycare for several months, and able to climb out of his crib here at home for quite a while.... so the day has come to introduce him to his own big boy bed. I put it together last night and Daddy moved it into his room this morning. Here he is this morning checking it out. We'll have to see how nap time and the overnights go here these first few nights.

Weekend at Wrigley

Ken and I just returned from an AWESOME weekend in Chicago to celebrate our 7th Anniversary.... Ken had been plotting for a while to get everything lined up. We went to Harry Potter 5 on Friday night on Navy Pier, walked through MillenniumPark, and walked through the Art exhibit on Michigan Avenue, and completed it all with excellent tickets to Saturday's Cubs game vs. the Astros. We had great seats (thanks, Lee!) to see the Cubs trounce the Astros, 9-3.

The boys were in the care of Grammy and Papa. While Mitchell has had the pleasure of overnights with them before, this was Owen's first time with an overnight. Apparently Owen liked the experience so much that he turned away and grumped when Mama tried to get him out of the car seat. Stinker. So much for missing Mommy.

Playing

One of the boys favorite things to do is to go into Lucy's room and play...they rock in the chair, tackle each other, and swing each other around in circles (what Mitchell calls "ring around the roovie"). Owen likes to point at each of the flowers on the wall. A new development.... Owen now calls Mitchell "Cha-Cha".

Yay!!!!! New Playroom!

Ok, Jen must not be staying ~nearly~ busy enough with summer school, because she's nagging that I haven't updated the blog recently. So here is some entertainment for you, Jen!

HOORAY!!!!! We finally got to move furniture around downstairs to finalize this big game of musical rooms. As a result, the boys have a new playroom! Mitchell took great pride in helping Grammy clean it, and putting together the alphabet mat in front of the TV.
Here are some new views....

This kitchen cubby is underneath the stairs.

Lucy's room is also taking shape... we moved in the dresser and chair, as well as the bear from my room once upon a time ago. Soon Owen will be moving to a toddler bed, so the crib will move in here too.
