My good friend Beth bumped into a website called
www.onceamonthmom.com. This incredibly organized mom does bulk cooking, powering through a long day of prep and cooking in order to have multiple meals in her freezer ready to go. She also has wonderfully detailed schedules, shopping lists, and labels for everything. We decided to give it a go; we selected the menu we wanted, shopped, planned, and today was our first big cooking adventure.

Beth brought by the first round of materials and equipment yesterday. Today she arrived here at the Rogers' household shortly after 8am. I had already gotten one of the roasts trimmed and in the crock pot, and had started dicing. 32 cloves of garlic (which we later found out was not enough...thankfully, I had more in the pantry!), 31 cups of shredded chicken, many many ingredients, and zillions of ziplock bags later we found ourselves with a TON of food for our freezers. In all we made smoothies (2 kinds), breakfast cookies, whole wheat pancakes, BBQ beef for sandwiches, BBQ chicken enchiladas, Parmesan chicken salad, steak gyros, pigs in a blanket, ham and cheese pinwheels, mozzarella stuffed hamburgers, meatloaf, lime-garlic pork chops, and honey mustard pork chops. And it was enough for 2 meals of each for both families! It was an extraordinary amount of food and a very busy day. We worked very well together (props to Beth for your endurance in your very pregnant state!), and had lots of laughs along the way. At about 6 pm she rolled out of the driveway with her car full of food, food, and more food. Our freezer now filled with oodles of meals, and the kitchen has largely recovered from the organized disaster that occurred here today. :)
