Chi Town Fun

Ken and I have just returned from our weekend trip to the Windy City. After depositing the kids at their respective care-givers Friday morning (THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!), we made our way in to Illinois for some much needed get-away time.
Friday night we saw Cirque Shanghai on Navy Pier--WOW! What an amazing performance! Then Saturday we made our way (albeit slowly, thanks to the Red Line being shut down) to Wrigley Field for Rich Hardin's debut pitching for the Cubs. We sat in some great seats (THANK YOU LEE!) and watched a fantastic game. The newest Cub pitched 6 shut out innings.

Aside from the multitude of Cub hits, we also got to see a homer from Jim Edmonds. And for the 7th inning stretch--Dick Butkus sang in true form. He is the legendary Bear after throwing the first pitch.

All in all, a great game...so at the end of the 8th the Cubs were up 7-2, so we got up to make our way home before at least some of the crowd. We board the El and make our way back down town, and as we're walking we're overhearing people say that the game isn't over!!!!! Apparently the Giants tied it up in the 9th. Ken and I didn't know whether or not to believe it at first, but we hear more people talking about it on the way back to the hotel.... We turn on the TV, and sure enough, we're watching the Cubs in the top of the 11th inning. Sean Marshall was now pitching, then later he got a hit, and the Cubs finally won the game in the bottom of the 11th! Madness!!!! Oh well, at least they won!

Later in the evening we walked around Michigan Avenue side streets, and wound up dining at an awesome little Italian place across from the hotel. Excellent menu overall, and Ken and I were both very pleased with our choices. The night was topped off with ice cream at Ghirardelli's. You can't go wrong there!

It was a wonderful weekend. Thank you to everyone who helped make it happen!
