Lucy at Bat

This is Lucy's first year playing T-ball, and she is off to a great start.  Her coach is amazing.  These kids know the "ready position", the bases, and to throw the ball to first base.  In her first few games she has already notched several hits and some excellent fielding. YAY!

Adding to the fun, the high school softball team came to practice one day.  You should have seen the rock star idolization going on.

Way to Go, Blue!

Owen wrapped up his T-ball season last week.  He showed LOTS of growth from a year ago;  in the last few games he made several unassisted outs at various positions.  He also was responsible for one whole side on an inning, tagging 3 people at home plate.  He had so much fun!

T-Ball Season!

Owen is playing T-ball again this summer and things are well under way.  Games started June first and we've had them twice a week since then.  He has made tremendous growth since last season:  he is VERY focused, moves with the play, and has made several outs for his team.  He is enjoying playing catcher (not really catching, but there is a lot of action at home plate trying to get runners out) and first base.

The rest of us have enjoyed spectating and cheering for Owen.  Well, maybe some of us are there to play.... and eat snacks.

Running the Bases and Just Plain Running

We've had a multitude of baseball and T-ball games and all have seen a nice progression of skills from the Rogers boys.  They both love playing catcher.  Mitchell loves to play pitcher (it's a fielding only position in his league, as coaches pitch). Owen has also enjoyed playing any of the infield positions;  he made a great play at 2nd base last night.

Mitchell all geared up behind the plate.

Mitchell playing 1st base last week.

We've had a great fan-base for the games;  Grammy B has made several games and Papa Denny has been in attendance as well. Lucy has been at several too.  She is always good for sideline entertainment.

We finish up Mitchell's season tonight, and Owen's tomorrow.  Then we'll be on to the next adventure!  Stay tuned~

Batter Up!

We have now begun the BUSY season of baseball.  Mitchell had two away games this week and had the chance to play several positions in the field.  Owen's first T-ball game of the season was today, and boy did he come out like gangbusters.  He also had the chance to play several positions tonight:  shortstop, catcher, first base, and right field.  He also had 3 hits, and showed off his throwing arm..... when he wasn't playing in the dirt.  He seemed to enjoy the experience, except for when his mom was yelling at him to quit throwing the dirt, or to quit licking it off his hands (those moms can be such a bummer!).

As we are now on the 4-night a week plan at one field or another, many more stats and pictures are sure to follow.

Play ball! T-Ball, that is. :)

Mitchell's first ever t-ball game was Monday night. In the midst of the 90 degree heat, the kids donned their new shirts and hats and took the field. Mitchell started off the game playing outfield and batting second in the lineup.

All of the kids did remarkably well. It was fun to watch, especially when the kids were, well, being kids!
Owen was again upset about his not being allowed to play/be on the field, but fared alright considering his hostile sibling status.

Lucy giggled about running away from us or playing catch with Daddy. She was all smiles.

Can't get any better than that!

Wow. Today could not have been any more wonderful if it tried, and fitting I should think, that today should be so grand.

We had some definite heat here today--84 degrees--which is more than I can say for the entire summer season last year. Needless to say we spent the whole day outside. There was biking, rock collecting, grass mowing, plant watering, sand-castle building, and playing under the sprinkler. We topped it off with corn on the cob at dinner and an ice cream treat before bed. While I will post lots of photos from today, I should also share with you some recent achievements by various Rogers family members:
  • Mitchell: Is gearing up for his first season of T-ball. His first game is tomorrow (Monday) night. He class has a field trip later this week too. He can, as of today, blow bubbles with bubble gum. A proud moment for sure!
  • Owen: Can spell some 3-letter words. He can also write his first and last name very well, and Mommy. He is bumming that he is not old enough to play T-ball this year. He is, however, rocking out with some mad hula-hooping skills.
  • Lucy: Steals Mommy's lawn chair quicker than you can blink. She can also sing a lovely rendition of "Take me out to the ballgame", including the household specific use of Cubbies in the appropriate place. She has wonderful expression as she sings, even as she sings herself to sleep from her crib. She will have a tough week this week, as she will be having her tonsils/adenoids taken out on Tuesday (we stocked up on multiple flavors of ice cream and Popsicles today).
  • Daddy: Is back at work on the golf-course. He's frequently seen driving a tractor plowing the field behind our house in assistance for Farmer Ray down the road. He is also back into golf league season.
  • Mommy: Going BATTY for many reasons, the agonizing pain in her shoulder being one of them. There are only 6.5 days left with schoolkids before summer break--so students are restless and there is MUCH to accomplish to wrap up the year. Thankfully, there are ONLY 6.5 days left with kids!!!! Did I say 6.5????
